Short Itinerary

  • Day 1: Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest – Pilcopata: Early morning departure from Cusco. Visit to the pre-Inca tombs of Ninamarca and the colonial town of Paucartambo with its museum. Lunch in the cloud forest and descent observing the Andean Cock-of-the-rock and the Spectacled Bear. Arrival at the lodge in Pilcopata and free time to visit the town.
  • Day 2: Pilcopata – Manu Lodge: Morning walk through the forest, visit to a coca plantation and a wildlife rescue center. Transfer to Puerto Atalaya (500 m a.s.l.) to start the boat descent down the Alto Madre de Dios River. Arrival at Manu Lodge, lunch, and swimming in the river. Afternoon exploration in the swamp and nocturnal wildlife observation before dinner.
  • Day 3: Lodge – Machuwasi Lake – Lodge: Very early visit to the macaw and parrot clay lick by boat. Return to the lodge for breakfast, followed by a 2-hour walk in the forest. Lunch and free time with the option to practice ziplining. In the afternoon, exploration by raft on Lake Machuwasi and a night walk to look for insects and amphibians.
  • Day 4: Lodge – Puerto Atalaya – Cusco: 20-minute morning navigation along a stream to witness parrots licking clay in their habitat. Breakfast at the lodge, packing, and boat transfer to Puerto Atalaya, where our private bus will be waiting for the direct return trip to Cusco.
